GA Secretary of State Orders Hand Recount of Presidential Race

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

In a press conference this morning, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that he has ordered a recount of all ballots cast in the presidential election.

All 5 million ballots will be recounted by hand. In Athens-Clarke County, that means that elections officials will have to manually examine over 51,000 ballots, and sort them into piles for each candidate.

The announcement comes after mounting pressures from Georgia Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, as well as President Trump, who, with no evidence, have questioned whether all the ballots were legally cast.

Raffensperger also announced that the December 1 election — where Athens Clarke County residents will have the opportunity to vote for the Public Service Commission — will be postponed until January 5 to coincide with the Senate runoff election.

The runoff to determine the next District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit remains scheduled for December 1st.
