Jessica Smith via Flagpole

After a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, Linda Phillips died on Wednesday. Linda Phillips - founder of Nuci’s Space and pillar of support for the music community of Athens - died on January 27 in her New York City home. Phillips opened Nuci’s Space in 2000 as a health and resource center for local musicians following the loss of her 22-year-old son, Nuci Phillips - a guitarist who took his own life after many years of suffering from severe depression.

Bob Sleppy, "Linda wanted to make sure that, you know, if there are other people that are hurting that, you know, we, we created a place for them to come to [...] Linda's impact on the community, I think, you know, really came from just her actions and what she did, I mean, someone would come in, and it didn't matter how long they talked with her, you know, she wouldn't, she would be there for every second of it, and be present and genuinely care and want to help."

If you or someone you know is in despair and having thoughts of dying, call or text the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, at 1-800-273-8255.
