Georgia is the 8th Least Safe State During COVID-19

In spite of recent efforts in getting the vaccine to Georgians who qualify, a recent study ranks Georgia as the Eighth Least Safe State.

State During COVID-19. Jill Gonzalez is an analyst with the personal finance website WalletHub, which determined the ranking.

"Georgia ranked 44 in terms of being a safe state during COVID-19. Number 1 would be the safest, 51 including D.C., would be the least safe."

WalletHub studied the 50 states and Washington D.C. in five different areas. Gonzalez tells us where Georgia fared worst.

"We only looked at five measurements here. Those are the rates of COVID-19 transmission, positive testing, hospitalization, death, and vaccination. Georgia, unfortunately, right now has the second-highest hospitalization rate in the country due to COVID-19. About ten times higher than in states like Hawaii, Alaska, and Oregon. So that hospitalization rate is the reason why it ranked in the bottom ten right now.

Analysts recommend the usual advice when it comes to prevention efforts.

"Masking up, obviously, maintaining social distance, even though this has been going on for almost a year and we're all pretty sick of it, and third is getting the vaccine if you are able to.

Alaska was safest, at number one on the list, with Georgia’s neighbor Alabama coming in dead last at number 51. Alabama currently has the highest death rate from COVID-19 in the nation.
