Paid Parental Leave Bill Passes the House

Daniel Creel

State employees could get several weeks of paid parental leave, under a proposal that passed the Georgia House of Representatives Tuesday.

House Bill 146, which passed in a 155-2 vote, offers up to three weeks of paid leave to state employees following the birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child. A similar bill passed in the House last year but failed in the Senate.

Representative Houston Gaines, an Athens Republican and one of the bill’s sponsors, says there’s more work to be done as the bill enters the Georgia Senate:

“We're going to work with our colleagues in the Senate and try to get this thing over the finish line because I truly believe that this legislation is going to help so many folks in our community and across the state.”
