Kemp Announces Expanded Vaccine Eligibility and Slams Biden Relief

During an update on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, Governor Brian Kemp announced that beginning Monday, Georgia will open up vaccine distribution to adults 55 and older, as well as to younger adults with serious health conditions.

Governor Brian Kemp providing a COVID-19 update for the state Wednesday afternoon. The governor said starting next week, the eligibility for getting the vaccine is expanding to include adults 55 and older, as well as younger adults with serious health conditions. They include asthma, cancer, chronic kidney or lung disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, sickle cell, and obesity, among others.

"We also expanded vaccine criteria beginning this week in order to protect more high-risk Georgians, and get our citizens back to normal. Adding these additional high-risk Georgians will mean that vaccination will be available to categories that have accounted for 92% of our deaths due to COVID-19 in Georgia."

The governor also took the time to express his opposition to the nearly $2 billion relief bill from the Biden administration.

"The $1.9 trillion blue-state-bailout being run through congress without bipartisan support, like the previous aid packages, would slap Georgia with one of the biggest decreases in funding when compared to formulas used for the CARES act. It also significantly singles out many conservative states to specifically prevent any of us from using these federal funds to pass tax reforms."
