UGA Creates New Center on Human Trafficking

The University of Georgia is creating a new center focused on global human trafficking.

The Center on Human Trafficking Research and Outreach will be housed in the School of Social Work and headed up by Professor David Okech. Faculty members, researchers, and students from a wide swath of disciplines will also participate.

Here’s Okech, speaking to WUGA in late 2019.

"And this exploitation can mean the sectors of labor or the sex industry, but it is basically having control and power over somebody else."

Each year, according to UGA, some 800,000 people are trafficked globally, although the true number may be much higher.
