Legislators kick off round of redistricting hearings

Today marks the first day of hearings on the often arduous process of drawing new Congressional, State Senate, and State House districts in Georgia. States are required to redraw district lines after each Census, and while final numbers haven't been released by the Census Bureau yet, Georgia lawmakers are holding their first hearing in Atlanta from 5 – 7 PM.

Legislators will also be travelling around the state for additional hearings, including one in Athens on July 6th at 5pm at Athens Technical College. That hearing, like the others around the state, will feature testimony from residents. Lawmakers ask that participants limit their testimony to five minutes or less.

Additionally, individuals can submit written testimony online, or testify as part of the online only forum, which will be held on July 30th. All of the hearings will be livestreamed and archived at www.legis.ga.gov.
