Amplify Athens Raises $10K for Family Connection-Communities in Schools
The proceeds are in from the Amplify Athens fundraising concert for Family Connection-Communities in Schools Athens. Last month’s event raised $10,000 for the Athens nonprofit which works to help young people and their families. Tim Johnson is Executive Director of FC-CIS. He says the money can help in a variety of ways.
“A lot of our funding, of course is restricted, and has to be spent on certain things,” according to Johnson. “The great thing about Amplify funding is that we can use it to fill in the gaps to provide our ongoing work in the community.”
Filling those gaps includes helping residents with house hold and health needs as well as school supplies.
FC-CIS provides assistance in three mains areas.
“One is to pull together all the organizations that serve children, and anybody else that interested in being part of the process, the really look at data and say what is happening to the kids in Athens. And what are the priority areas we really need to focus in on.”
The organization also has Site Coordinators in area schools to connect students with needs outside the classroom with resources to help them stay successful. It provides 16 Neighborhood Leaders who connect residents with resources and inform policy makers about community issues related to poverty.
The concert was held at Southern Brewing Company. Amplify Athens has previously given $50,000 to FC-CIS.
