COVID Cases Continue to Rise in Area

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Athens Clarke County with 36 new cases reported today by the Georgia Department of Public Health. That’s the highest number of new cases in a single day for the county since Spring.

The upward trend is also true statewide, as Georgia reported the highest number of new cases for a single day in months, at 3,724 total new COVID-19 cases.

In Jackson County, the PCR test positivity rate increased to 12.1% for the past two weeks and Georgia DPH reported 14 total cases today for the county.

In Oconee County, the PCR test positivity rate also increased to 7.3% for the past two weeks and reported 10 new cases today.

Since the pandemic began, Athens-Clarke County has seen 13,179 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 143 confirmed deaths, and 512 hospitalizations, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
