Local COVID Cases Remain High

CDC

Local COVID-19 cases remain high. The Georgia Department of Health reported 141 new COVID cases in Athens-Clarke County, 120 cases in Jackson County, and 51 cases in Oconee County today.

Hospitals continue to fill up in Region E, where Athens hospitals are at the center, with 93% of inpatient beds and 99% of ICU beds in use.

At the University of Georgia, 231 positive COVID-19 tests were reported between August 16th and 22nd through DawgCheck, the University’s COVID-19 self-screening tool.  That number is up from 104 the previous week.

For vaccinations, UGA put 339 shots in arms last week and in Athens-Clarke County, 41% of the population has been fully vaccinated.
