redandblack.com

The school year has been off to a bumpy start as the Coronavirus Delta variant continues to spread. As part of their response the Clarke County School District launched a dashboard that updates with data on positive COVID cases among students and staff almost in real time.

As of noon Thursday, there were 260 confirmed COVID cases within the school district in the past two weeks, with approximately 6% of students and staff currently in quarantine.

Wednesday evening, the district sent an email out to parents announcing that Clarke County High schools will move to virtual learning next week. Here to give us an update on that, and the school year so far is Dr. Gillian Whatley, Executive Director of Student Services for the Clarke County School District.

WUGA's Chris Shupe talks with Dr. Gillian Whatley:

Chris Shupe was the Program Director of WUGA from 2014-2022. Shupe may be best known as The Athens King, a tribute to Elvis Presley, which often included an 8 piece show band! After two years as a part-time announcer, Chris Shupe joined WUGA full time as the station’s Morning Edition Host and Assistant Operations Director. He was later promoted to PD in 2014.
