Athens News Matters: Social Workers Must Adapt Due to COVID-19

https://001.clayton.k12.ga.us/social_worker

Social workers tackle our toughest social problems often by working directly within our communities. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing practices, working face to face with people has been difficult.

Some social workers had to adapt by creating new innovative ways to solve problems by utilizing technology while others were already turning to new technology to help serve more people.

This was a big challenge for social work. Historically our profession has not been entirely technology oriented...Fortunately we've made pretty good strides in the last few years in terms of researching how to best use technology in the profession.

WUGA's Alexia Ridley discusses these challenges with the Associate Dean of the University of Georgia's School of Social Work, Orion Mowbray:

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
