Athens Humane Society offering holiday adoption deal

Not all shelter pets get to go “Home for the Holidays.” That’s why the Athens-Area Humane Society is offering 50% off adoption fees for any pets older than one year. That includes cats and dogs.

The adoption deal is part of a larger campaign founded by the Helen Woodward Animal Center and sponsored by food brand Blue Buffalo. In its 23rd year, the “Home for the Holidays” campaign partners with shelters and rescue organizations throughout the holiday season to encourage thousands of pet adoptions across the country.

The deal lasts until the end of the year in an effort to adopt out older pets, said Shelter Manager Stephen Zantinga. Many families opt for kittens or puppies, but older pets can offer stability, like socialization experience. And, no need to potty train.
