ACC Mayor and Commission meet tonight

Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

Though City Hall remains closed in light of COVID, a special called session will start at 6 p.m. this evening where the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission will continue discussing TSPLOST 2023 following public input.

The proposed list of local transportation projects totals $144.5 million. It’s been narrowed down to 36 projects from the original 91 that were submitted last summer. Tonight’s meeting is the final chance for public input on the list before the commission makes a final vote next month. The TSPLOST 2023 Advisory Committee held two virtual public forums on Jan. 6 and 13.

Residents will vote in May on whether to implement the 1% sales tax that would begin at the end of the TSPLOST 2018 collection.

The commission will also vote tonight on agenda items for the next meeting, scheduled on Feb. 1. Those items include the construction of a long-discussed pump station on Atlanta Highway and the acquisition of a new ballistics identification system.
