Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission kicked off budget season with a presentation from the county’s manager on Tuesday.

The Historic Preservation Commission has recommended to the county’s Mayor and Commission that the building be designated a local historic landmark.

Proposed changes include improving the sewer system, creating a public parking deck, and constructing a mixed-used private development in the Graduate Hotel site and adjacent areas.

An Athens mayoral debate will take place next Saturday. The debate is being organized by the podcast ATHChat, hosted by Drew Abney and Russell Edwards.

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission will meet Tuesday night to consider next steps for the controversial replacement of the downtown Saye Building.
