In the State of the State address on Wednesday, Gov. Brian Kemp celebrated the return of full tuition coverage to HOPE Scholarship and Grant awards and acknowledged a University of Georgia Student who has benefited from the program.
“Oba Samaye is a HOPE Scholarship student at our National-Championship-winning University of Georgia. Go dawgs. He is a first-generation college student and the oldest of five children. His father is a retired Navy veteran and pastor. His mother is also currently in school working to become a doctor,” said Kemp.
He recognized how the recent revamp of the scholarship program will benefit Georgia college students.
“By covering 100% of tuition — a policy long worked on by members of both sides of the aisle — a student like Oba will receive roughly $1,000 in additional financial assistance in the coming school year,” Kemp said.
