ACC commissioner charged with DUI

Athens Clarke County Commissioner Ovita Thornton was arrested on Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the area of West Hancock Ave. and North Harris Street. Police say Thornton was traveling east on Hancock Ave when her car left the roadway, striking a curb and a utility pole.

The DUI charge is a misdemeanor
