ACC announces two fair housing events for April

Jason Born

In honor of Fair Housing Month, Athenians are invited to two events to learn about tenants’ rights.

The first meeting, a community event for citizens, landlords, and property managers, is set for Apr. 6 at 5:30-7:30 PM. Chad McCraine, Senior Staff Attorney for Georgia Legal Services Program, a nonprofit offering legal services to low-income Georgians living outside of metro Atlanta, will cover tenant’s rights and landlord responsibilities. A staff member from Athens-Clarke County Code Enforcement will talk about fair housing and how it relates to their department.

Athenians are also invited to a luncheon with community partners, landlords, and property managers on Apr. 13 at 11 AM-12:30 PM. Gail Williams, Executive Director of Metro Fair Housing Services Inc., will discuss barriers to housing and housing discrimination. The talk will cover information and regulations on service animals and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Carryout lunch will be provided with RSVP, see ACCGov’s website for more information.

The ACC Housing and Community Development department will host both events at the Athens Regional Library.
