Athens Among Cities with Most Student Loan Debt

CommonDreams.org

This is graduation season and according to the most recent numbers from the National Center for Education Statistics, over 2 million college students earned bachelor’s degrees and another million earned their associate degrees in 2020. Unfortunately, many of those new graduates will leave school carrying debt. Jill Gonzalez is an analyst with the personal finance website Wallethub. She says Athens is among the cities with the heaviest debt load, and she says that debt costs graduates in other ways as well.

Analysts say student loans totaled record $1.63 trillion, which averages out to about $37,600 per borrower.
