Pop-up food bus for the CCSD

Families will not have to sign up or pay to receive these resources, which include food, school supplies, books, resources, and registration information. The bus will start making its stops at 9 a.m.

Soraia Santos-Felgenhauer is the director of Family and Community Engagement for the CCSD, which is spearheading the initiative.

“This is really a community effort and a partnership that is not only about CCSD finding a way to address these issues, but it’s definitely a community way to hold hands and provide the services that our children deserve,” Santos-Felgenhauer said.

She says the neighborhoods that the bus will visit were identified because they are located in food deserts or are otherwise in need of additional resources.

The program is intended to provide the same resources that are provided during the year during the department’s Bridging the Gap program.

“I think when you’re working in the community and you’re trying to help the community, you can never have enough resources when it comes to providing food for our community, or providing the essentials they need to get by every day,” CCSD Community School Organizer Omar Reid said.

Tomorrow, the bus will visit students in Willow Springs, Winterville, Hallmark Mobile Home Park, and the Athens Garden Apartments. The bus will visit Stonehenge and Garnett Ridge on Friday.
