The Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will prepare for the upcoming public hearings on proposed 2024 voting location changes at their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 13.

The board proposed six election day polling location changes and the addition of one new polling location after conducting four work sessions over the past two months. These changes stem from a study with the ACC Government Geospatial Information Office to reevaluate geographically central areas for registered voters in the county. The full list of proposed changes can be found (hyperlink) here.

The public hearings for the proposed changes will take place on Tuesday, June 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Ben Epps Airport Community Room and Tuesday, June 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension office. The board expects to vote on the final polling sites at their next regular meeting in July.

The board also plans to call for the special election for the Clerk of Superior and State Courts Athens-Clarke County. Elisa Zarate currently serves in the interim role after the previous clerk Susan Schaffer retired in May after thirty years in the position. They additionally intend to continue discussion on providing a Spanish language translation for voter information materials for the 2024 election.
