Former University of Georgia football star and 2022 Georgia Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Herschel Walker is returning to his Bulldog roots and has re-enrolled for classes at the university that made him a household name, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.
A University of Georgia official said that Walker was seen at an academic advisor’s office on campus and the registrar confirmed his enrollment in summer courses. Walker pursued a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice when he played football at UGA from 1980 to 1982. However, he never finished his degree and left as a junior to play professional football.
During his run for Senate, Walker falsely claimed that he had graduated from UGA. He later shared a statement with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that although he returned to Athens after his professional career, he said that “life and football got in the way” and the claim was removed from his campaign website.
Walker ultimately lost to Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock in a December runoff election where he received 48.6% of the vote. Since his defeat, Walker has kept a lower profile and has not announced any plans to run for office in the future.
