The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is celebrating Juneteenth this year with a series of community activities. On Friday, June 16th, the organization will raise the Juneteenth Flag at 11 am and will host an hour-long block party and rally at City Hall at 12 pm. A march from City Hall to College Square will follow in celebration of the Freedom of African Americans and the end of slavery. The event will feature music, dancing, and more. Members of the Athens community are invited to attend.
The organization is also hosting a special Father’s Day Bail-Out through June 17th. Family members and loved ones of incarcerated individuals are encouraged to apply for bail-out services in an effort to ease the financial burden of getting a loved one out of jail. Mokah-Jasmine Johnson, President and cofounder of the AADM spoke with WUGA earlier about the program.
She says the organization provides bail and other financial services year-round to help free incarcerated individuals.
Bail-outs are determined on a case-by-case basis, which must meet the AADM’s requirements.
