The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia is raising awareness about student hunger during summer vacation. According to the agency, 1 in 7 children in Northeast Georgia struggle with food insecurity. Erin Barger is CEO of the Food Bank, which provides multiple methods of getting food to children during the summer and the rest of the year.
Barger says the average family is spending 12% more on groceries than they were at this time last year due to inflation and supply chain issues. That has resulted in fewer donations to the facility, which means the Food Bank is spending more money on food for clients.
The Food Bank serves a 14-county area. Visit foodbank.nega.org for more information.
