Judge Denies Contempt Motion filed against DA Deborah Gonzales

ACC Gov

Western Circuit Superior Court Judge Eric Norris has ruled against a contempt of court motion filed against District Attorney Deborah Gonzales after determining that she did not violate an order to provide documents subpoenaed by Watkinsville attorney Kevin Epps.

The contempt motion arose as a part of a legal proceeding involving a violation of Marsy’s Law in which Gonzales had previously admitted to violating the rights of an alleged victim in a sexual assault case.

Gonzales recused her office from further prosecution against Michael Lareco Daniel, 42, whose charges of rape and child molestation were dismissed by the attorney’s office the day after a jury was selected on April 17 to hear the charges.

The case has been assigned to Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney Randy McGinley.
