Kirby Smart outlines Georgia football challenges at SEC Media Day

SEC football head coaches traveled to Nashville, Tennessee this week for the 2023 SEC Media Days.

The event happens every summer where coaches talk to the media about the current state of college football and the incoming challenges the season will bring.

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart stressed the threat that distractions and complacency pose to his team.

“I don’t care about the three-peat, two-peat, or the one-peat, I care about complacency,” said Smart. “If the focus is on that and the outcomes, I think the rest will take care of itself in terms of our players being the best they can be.”

While Smart will have a handful of new players on the roster, he won’t have nearly as much turnover on the coaching staff.

“Every full-time coach on this year’s staff was on last year’s staff,” Smart revealed. “Tell me the last time a national championship team can say that.”

Smart talked about how the January tragedy that took the lives of Georgia football player Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy affected his team and himself.

“We then endured the loss of two dear family members, Devin Willock, and Chandler LeCroy. We love them and we miss them… A tragedy can either divide or unite us. I’m proud of our players, it has definitely brought them closer together and united our team and our family.”

The SEC Media Days will continue through Thursday.
