Athens-Clarke County commissioners are expected to vote tonight on a pair of pieces of legislation related to the mall area redevelopment.
The first measure lays out the developer’s responsibilities in maintaining an array of infrastructure related to the project from roads and sidewalks to replacing trees that die or become diseased.
The second measure up for discussion and a vote tonight extends the deadline for the developer to transfer some 2.5 acres of land to the county for a transit station. Developers say the extra time is necessary as they work out some further details with current mall tenants.
The overall project, approved earlier this year, is a massive redevelopment of the Georgia Square Mall area which will create a new mixed-use development with over 1000 new housing units.
