A fatal car crash on Whit Davis Road and Pioneer Drive resulted in the death of 50-year-old Kashif Abbas of Athens.
At approximately 7:12 p.m. on Sep. 6, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the vehicle crash. The initial investigation suggests that the 1982 Honda motorcycle, driven by Abbas, was traveling south on Whit Davis Road.
Witnesses said they saw the motorcycle passing vehicles when Abbas attempted to negotiate a curve and slid into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck in the northbound lane driven by 43-year-old Israel Aguilar of Athens.
Abbas was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
This is the 12th fatal vehicle crash of the year in Athens-Clarke County.
