Athens has seen a slight rise in unemployment with the October rate reaching 3.4%, up three-tenths of a point from September.
This is slightly higher than in October of last year when the unemployment rate was 3.1%.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced the rise, as well as other data, on Thursday.
Thompson said, "Georgia's unemployment rate remains below the national average, but businesses face growing pressure, including finding and retaining top-tier talent.”
Initial unemployment claims in Athens increased by 35%, while the overall labor force decreased by 223.
Total jobs in Athens hit an all-time high of over 102,900 last month. This is a rise of over 3,200 compared to this time last year.
