Many Athenians will have a day on and not a day off this Martin Luther King Day. Athenians can contribute to their community on Monday, January 15th by participating in Athens-Clarke County’s MLK Day of Service.
The national holiday was established in 1994. Athens-Clarke County is one of thousands of communities across the United States that will observe MLK Day through organized acts of service.
Over thirty local nonprofits have signed on to the event, including Nuci’s Space, the Athens Area Homeless Shelter, and Project Safe.
An opening ceremony will take place from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Lay Park Gymnasium at 297 Hoyt Street. Online volunteer registration will close on January 12th, and limited walk-up registration will be available.
