Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz says the resignation of the Athens Housing Authority’s CEO should not affect the timeline of a major affordable housing project near downtown Athens.
Connie Staudinger stepped down from her position as the Chief Executive Officer of the Athens Housing Authority, or AHA, last week. She had been in the role for less than a year and a half. While one board member of the AHA called the split “amicable,” another expressed concern over delays in construction in Bethel Midtown Village, according to the Athens Banner Herald.
The renovation of Bethel Midtown Village is a part of the North Downtown Athens Redevelopment Project. Along with two other projects around Athens, it will provide hundreds of affordable living spaces.
But, “The North Downtown Redevelopment schedule will not miss a beat,” Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz told WUGA.
He added, “The first phase is close to completion and the second phase has been funded.”
According to board members of the AHA, there is no timeline to replace Staudinger. In the interim, the AHA will be led by Sheila Crisp, formerly the organization’s chief financial officer.
