The Oconee County Board of Commissioners has issued a public notice inviting applications from interested citizens for appointments to several advisory boards and committees vital to the community's governance and development.

One of the key opportunities is with the Oconee County Planning Commission, where four positions are set to open on October 1, 2024, and will run through September 30, 2028. Members of this commission play a crucial role in advising the Board of Commissioners on rezoning requests and other important land use matters. Meetings are scheduled monthly on the third Monday at 7:00 pm in the Oconee County Administration Building.

Additionally, the Recreation Advisory Committee is seeking four new members whose terms will also commence on October 1, 2024, but conclude on September 30, 2026. This committee focuses on reviewing issues pertinent to the county's parks and recreational facilities, proposing recommendations on significant matters. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November at 5:00 pm at the Oconee County Veterans Park Community Center.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online or request application forms and further details from the Oconee County Administration Building, located at 7635 Macon Hwy, Watkinsville, Georgia, or by calling 706-769-5120.

Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, August 16, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
