ACCPD Investigating Online Terroristic Threats

A 12-year-old Athens resident is in custody in connection with online terroristic threats. On Thursday, September 5th the Athens-Clarke County Police Department began receiving calls regarding threats made on social media. According to a media release from the department, the posts included images of firearms with the names of schools in Clarke County.

ACCPD detectives and crime analysts identified the account and located the suspect, a 12-year-old Athens resident. He was charged with terroristic threats and taken into custody by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Police say the suspect did not possess any weapons. The images of the firearms were taken from the internet.
