With Hurricane Helene expected to make landfall Thursday, the University of Georgia is closing the main campus on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27 due to safety concerns. All in-person classes, campus events and activities will be canceled during this time.

All UGA residence halls and dining halls will remain open. In addition, Campus Transit will continue normal operations until weather conditions make it unsafe to do so.

The email advised that staff, students and faculty of UGA's extended campuses should follow the directions specific to their location.

Hurricane Helene is a dangerous storm rapidly approaching landfall and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and high winds to the Athens area Thursday night into Friday morning. Governor Kemp declared a State of Emergency for all 159 counties in Georgia yesterday in order to allow state agencies to prepare.

Faculty, staff, students, and others are encouraged to check emergency.uga.edu for updates and other safety information.
