The new Akins Ford arena formerly known as the Classic Center Arena will be getting a new art installation courtesy of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST. The arena is set to finish construction in the winter of this year, and the associated parking deck will soon boast a new mural.

The artist, Kate Lynn Lewis was anonymously chosen from amongst 97 applicants and will begin work on the mural on October 3rd. Lewis’ work is described as having clean lines, and bold colors, with an emphasis on impossible architecture. In the past, they have worked with United Airlines, Starbucks, Google, and other well-known companies, as a muralist.
The piece is titled “Architecture of Imagination” and the proposed design has been approved by the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission.
