“You better hope I don’t catch you.”
That’s the message from Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith regarding the individual or individuals who phoned in a series of bomb threats to several Barrow County Schools.
Those threats sent Barrow County Schools into a soft lockdown Friday morning. The lockdown has been lifted, and all students and staff are safe. Law enforcement conducted sweeps of each school that received a threatening call. Those schools included County Line Elementary, Yargo Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, Winder Elementary, and Apalachee High School. The Central Office also received a call. Barrow Sheriff’s Office reports no suspicious devices or packages were found.
Sheriff Jud Smith addressed the situation on Friday afternoon.
“Give us a break,” Smith said. “Give these kids and these parents and these loves ones a break. Whoever’s doing this is a sick individual and I’m going to throw every resource that I have at it to find out who they are and prosecute them to the fullest.”
The Sheriff’s Office and the school district are working with the FBI, GBI, and GEMA to identify those responsible for the phone calls. Authorities say none of the threats were credible and were prank calls.
