Researchers from the University of Georgia have created a virtual reality training for people in the recycling industry.
Breaking down objects to be recycled is a complicated process and oftentimes requires the combined efforts of a robot and a person. The researchers designed a VR to safely train employees to work alongside robots during the disassembly process which can be dangerous.
The VR Co-Lab places trainees in a virtual workstation that resembles what they would see on the job allowing them to interact with the various tools and robotics. The VR is also used to train the robots by tracking the movements of the user to prevent the two from colliding and to set the pace of the task.
The research team believes that this VR will help to cut down on the time needed to train employees.
