Tim Denson has announced he is running for Mayor of Athens-Clarke County. The long-time public servant plans to host a series of community conversations to hear from residents about their hopes, concerns, regarding the Classic City.
“I really plan on spending the summer, which is always a quieter time here in Athens, holding listening session across the county in multiple different places, so that I can sit down and really hear from residents about what their priorities are, what issues they see arising and ways we can work together to tackle these things once I’m Mayor,” Denson said.
Denson currently represents District 5 on the Clarke County Board of Education and works as Team Lead at the Homeless Day Service Center. Prior to his tenure on the board, Denson served as an ACC Commissioner.
“I think that’s really going to be a valuable asset for me if I’m Mayor,” according to Denson. “I have spent four years as a very active commissioner that had a track record of getting things done and getting policies passed.”
He also touted his present position.
“Currently, I’m sitting on the school board, during a time of seeing some really great strengths and new things happen, such as the sustainability plan come into place with the school district.”
Voters will decide on the next Mayor in the election of May 2026. He seeks to succeed current Mayor Kelly Girtz who is nearing the end of his second term.
