An Athens man is facing several charges after a two-year-long identity theft investigation.

On May 29th, The Athens-Clarke County Police Department Property Crimes Unit conducted a search warrant of a residential property along the 200 block of Jennings Mill Parkway. The search comes after a two-year-long investigation into mail theft, check manufacturing, and forgery.

According to a department release, Alex Brown, a 30-year-old male from Athens, was arrested after the search of his residence led ACCPD to stolen checks, manufactured checks, stolen identification documents, and materials used to manufacture fraudulent checks.

Brown was then arrested on 16 felony charges. Although he is in custody, police say “further warrants are being sought as the investigation continues.”
