It's a good idea to have some basic supplies on hand in emergencies

An earthquake of 2.7 magnitude could be felt in northern Georgia on Saturday, but no damage has been reported. Saturday’s earthquake was not as noticeable as the one in May felt from the Tennessee mountains to Atlanta.

Earthquakes in the state are not common, but the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) reports that scattered earthquakes have caused significant damage in the state’s past.

GEMA/HS recommends that families have a communication plan in place in case of emergencies and make a ready kit that consists of three days worth of food and water along with other emergency supplies, such as a radio, flashlight, and first aid kit.
