The Athens Homeless Coalition aims to bring together different organizations serving the unsheltered individuals of Athens to solve the crisis of homelessness.

This summer, the coalition started a twice-monthly public discussion that gathers residents around the common goal of ending homelessness in Clarke County. They’re also set to launch a so-called “street newspaper” meant to empower people living without shelter.

WUGA’s Emma Auer met up with Michael Moss, the Athens Homeless Coalition’s Community Engagement Coordinator, to discuss the ways he and his colleagues are engaging both the housed public and people living without a fixed address. Here’s that conversation.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
