Steven Strickland is running for state Senate in District 46.

Next year, voters in Northeast Georgia’s Senate District 46 will decide their new state senator. The district covers several counties, including Clarke, Oconee, Walton, Barrow, and Gwinnett. Republican senator Bill Cowsert currently represents District 46 and is now running to be the state’s next Attorney General.

Two candidates have announced their campaigns to succeed Cowsert. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley sat down with Oconee County’s Steven Strickland, a Republican, to discuss his qualifications. Here’s that conversation.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
