State Representative Houston Gaines has announced his campaign for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District Seat, which is currently held by U.S. Rep. Mike Collins.

On Thursday, Houston Gaines posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, announcing his campaign to run for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District. The campaign video highlighted the legislation he’s backed, which focused on stricter immigration enforcement after the murder of Laken Riley. He also highlighted his efforts to block local governments from defunding the police.

Gaines is currently a state representative in Georgia’s 120th district, which includes much of Northeast Athens.

He is the first Republican to announce his campaign for the 10th Congressional District Seat since the announcement that U.S. Rep. Mike Collins would be running for the U.S. Senate earlier this week.

Democrat Lexy Doherty is also campaigning to run for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District Seat. She lost to current seat holder Mike Collins in the 2024 election.
