The Perspectives Georgia Pottery Invitational has gathered the work of 46 artists in Oconee County.

In a repurposed old gymnasium in Watkinsville, visitors wander around rows of handmade mugs, vases and bowls of every color and shape.

Former Athens mayor Gwen O’Looney was browsing for ceramic vessels midday on Thursday. She said she’s been coming to the showcase for over two decades.

“All of these are useful pieces,” she said. “It just makes you see them and think about how beautiful the things you use every day can be.”

The pottery invitational is in its 23rd year and is sponsored by the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation. The showcase opened last Saturday with over 6,000 pieces on display and for sale from artists hand building and wheel throwing clay statewide. The event will run through Tuesday, September 7th at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation.
