University of Georgia Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and Air Force ROTC held their second annual 9/11 memorial stair climb in Sanford stadium.

UGA honored the 24th anniversary of the World Trade Center being attacked on September 11, 2001, with their second annual memorial stair climb. UGA Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC invited police officers and fire rescuers from Athens-Clarke County, Oconee County, and UGA to participate.

To honor those first responders that climbed 110 stories during the attack on the World Trade Center, participants climbed the stairs nineteen times in Sanford stadium with some first responders wearing their gear.

“It may sound cliché, but there’s a deep sense of pride in wearing the same gear, carrying the same equipment and feeling even a small part of the physical toll that those who made the ultimate sacrifice experienced,” said Jacob Jones, Athens-Clarke County Fire Department training captain.

Before the climb Greg Trevor, UGA public safety communications and outreach coordinator and 9/11 survivor, delivered a short speech. He talked about the event and his experience.
