On Monday, the Oconee County Board of Education held their regular October work session at the Instructional Support Center. This was Dr. Melissa Butler first meeting since becoming the new superintendent.

The board approved several action items at the regular session, including the purchase of new HVAC units for Colham Ferry Elementary School, six new buses, repairs on North Oconee High stormwater repairs and more. These items will be paid for by using the ESPLOST and General Fund dollars.

The board agreed to discuss a policy that will help students create a distraction free environment without their personal electronic devices at November’s board of education meetings.

During the meeting, the board revealed they were recipients of the 2025 GSBA Exemplary Board distinction. This award is the highest recognition bestowed upon the Board of Education by the Georgia School Boards Association. The GSBA recognizes school boards that demonstrate strong governance and support student-centered learning and achievement.
