A delegation from the Consul General of France in Atlanta visited the University of Georgia on Friday to discuss partnerships between the European country and the institution.

Anne-Laure Desjonquères is the Consul General of France in Atlanta. She and a group of French diplomats met with several departments at the University of Georgia. Desjonquères says she hopes to not only attract UGA students to study in France but also establish more joint programs here in Athens.

“We love to celebrate the 250th anniversary of independence where France played a big role--that’s the basis of our historic alliance with the US,” she said. “We also want to develop research collaborations. We have many subjects that are priority issues in common.”

In addition, the Consul General wanted to spread the word about the Lafayette Fellowship, launched by French President Emmanuel Macron. The scholarship funds a year of study in France for 30 American graduate students—who do not need to speak French to apply.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
