The Trump administration’s announcement that SNAP benefits will partially resume comes after the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia predicted that it will experience a shortfall of half a million dollars due to impacts on the SNAP program. Athens-Clarke County Commissioners will discuss whether to grant the organization $150,000 from the county’s general fund on Tuesday night.

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia estimated last Tuesday that 70,000 Georgians in their service area would likely be impacted by the program’s pause.

While it’s unclear how the Food Bank’s budget will be impacted by the partial reopening of SNAP, Commissioner Melissa Link, who represents District 2 in Athens, said that given recent economic uncertainty, “the Food Bank can use all the help it can get.”
