Longtime Athens resident Zander Mason announced his candidacy for Athens-Clarke County District 5 Commissioner in a press release yesterday, Nov. 10.
Dexter Fisher, current District 5 commissioner, is leaving the seat to run for Mayor.
District 5 covers neighborhoods including Homewood Hills, where Mason resides, Forest Heights, Moss Side, and Country Club Estates.
Mason is an Athens Academy and University of Georgia alumnus and has held leadership roles in organizations including Bigger Vision of Athens, Athens Jaycees, Palm House Recovery, and the Rotary Club of Athens. He currently works as a financial advisor.
His campaign priorities focus on public safety, infrastructure growth, housing solutions, economic development, and youth and education support.
A series of events in District 5 neighborhoods designed to give residents opportunity for open discussion will be hosted by the campaign in the new year, according to the release.
