A local nonprofit is working to make sure vulnerable adults in Northeast Georgia know they are valued this holiday season.

Athens Community Council on Aging has collected Christmas gifts from around the community for almost 15 years through a program called Be a Santa to a Senior.

ACCA President and CEO Eve Anthony says that with the help of retail stores, the University of Georgia, and every day Northeast Georgians, they provide wrapped gifts to 700 older neighbors each year.

She said, “We have this very festive wrapping party where we bring about 200 volunteers in that wrap about 3500 gifts.”

Most of the older adults who receive a gift are those who use ACCA’s services—those who get meals delivered or who receive care for dementia.

Anthony continued, “And then we also partner with different organizations or people just tell us about an older neighbor or a grandma or a friend or someone they know that could really use a gift around the holidays as well.”

More information can be found by calling ACCA at (706) 549-4850.
